Sicilian Majolica vase jar , late Victorian or early 20th century HAND POTTED hand painted

Malta - Collection Only

In video I forgot to say some Albarello and some majolica storage jars , and this one for sale ; have somewhat flared lid rims where hide or cloth can be secured to , to seal the hole and act as a lid.

Antique ; Manner of a Caltagirone bocca ; Characteristic colours of glaze on a heavy stoneware effect clay. Good clear potters fingers marks inside out. Reassuring glaze-grot and general characteristic inherent defects  such an incomplete blotchey glaze , bubbles and glaze runs. Minor nibbling which attests to a later age. No cracks or repairs – [The vase still rings like a bell. ] A blank rear showing no flowers and particularly showing no coloured ring top trim on the rear.
