Marine seascapes G. Hayes oil paintings

Malta - Collection Only

In Malta. A pair of English seascapes landscapes by G. Hayes. 1823 to 1895. George Hayes was a British artist born in Huddersfield in 1824 and working in Manchester and Wales. He was a versatile painter of landscapes, scenes with figures, seascapes and portraits.
Hayes was a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art and was living in Conway, Caernarvonshire in 1881 and 1891, where he died in 1895. Many of his paintings depict scenes of Wales. He was very much involved in the local community – painting scenery for the amateur dramatic society and giving painting lessons.
He exhibited widely including Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle and Liverpool.
The 2 frames I think are original. With silver leaf inset. Rear annotation in the artist’s hand show ”St. Michaels Mount ‘ [ Cornwall ] , and the other very indistinct ; possibly ”’Scilly Isles”’? With the silver insets ,it is the type of frame in England that was sometimes glazed. It is possible the glass on both was broken /removed.
Slight crackle to paintwork. Frame gold gilding and silver gilded insets are worn. Historical repairs. Gaps in mitres on frames.
