MALTESE PAIR chairs MaltaMalta - Collection Only
MALTESE MADE Caned wooden PAIR hall /salon chairs GILT effect trim , hand carved chestnut wood detail
In Malta. A pair of 18th century style stained solid mahogany , or possibly beech or chestnut ; Maltese made chairs. Shaped and carved to Louis XV-XVI style ,the chairs have original caned seats and backs ,and gilt effect trim. The chairs are rock solid and each has original labels ; by , Carmelo Delia ; St.Lucia Street ,Valletta Malta. These chairs are dated 1963. A cute RARE feature is carved trim on bottoms of the back feet , carving that faces the front instead of back. I suggest therefore these were hall/salon chairs not dining chairs.
The book GUIDE TO MALTESE FURNITURE by JOSEPH GAUDIA-NAUDI lists fig.58 ,59 ,60 which show similar chairs of older and Italian / moreso French pedigree.
