Mdina Malta set Maltese original paintings

Price for all 4. In Malta . Rare, Large. Matching set of 4 hand painted original Maltese oil on canvas paintings. Real gold leaf on timber /pine contemporary original frames. Each signed J.M.Zammit ,each dated 1960, each ,each annotated Mdina. Subject ; ”a suite of bucolic dreamlike idylls.” Whimsical , naive , fairytale scenes.

A once in a lifetime opportunity to own a set of 4. Most likely specially commissioned for a top end home on Malta. These paintings have subject matter popular in the middle of the 20th century [ though the style is not fashionable now ]. Elements from 17th and 18th century style ,with pastoral and historical influence. Rennaissance and Alpine code too. I would call then vaguely semi Italian school , with a whiff of Neopolitan style , esp.with the way the figures are painted. No observed restoration seen, none required? Minor damage to frames , the odd small puncture of canvas. These 4 pictures would have sat in a large room. Possibly a salon or dining room in prominence. The pride and joy of the owners. These pictures one day will be highly desirable , I would say they will become collection ,or museum quality as they are each signed and dated, are Maltese [ Mdina ] ,are representative of the genre.

Overal canvasses are in good condition but not perfect. The frames have some damage. They appear to be real gold leaf -water gilded.
