SOLD AT AUCTION IN MALTA FRENCH STYLE mini commode
Malta - Collection OnlyITEM for sale ; 1 x white marble topped commode. ‘ Alexandria’ FRENCH STYLE mini commode chest C. 1950 SMALL bombe WHITE MARBLE TOP.
In Malta. A desirable cute mini-commode made as a bedside. French Bombe / bellied shape. With kingwood /olive or similar veneer , and white possibly natural marble top. Cast fake-ormolu colour and shaped metal pulls and corner trim. Small. The main front inlay shows an urn with flowers ,the item having similar flourishes on both sides. Made circa 1950. This table is French 18th century style ; it was made in Italy or more likely Egypt in a furnishings factory. In Malta this type of furniture is called ‘ Alexandria ‘ furniture as its origin is unknown. The corner mounts contain rams heads which to me look distinctly near-eastern ; pointing to Egypt.
